About us


Swedish-Karelian Business and Information Center works in Petrozavodsk since 1995. Having started as a SIDA-supported project, SKBIC from 1999 operates in the framework of Agreement on cooperation between the Republic of Karelia, Russia and Västerbotten county, Sweden.

Our main directions of activity are:

1. Realization of provisions of Protocol on cooperation between Republic of Karelia and Västerbotten county, active participation in Barents region and Baltic Sea region projects and programs.

2. Assistance in developing economic ties between the regions.

3. Promotion of contacts between various organizations in Karelia and in Sweden.

Our projects

SKBIC has a good experience of participation in the international projects.
Among our recent projects are:

1. Nordic Council of Ministers project "Northern Bridges", 2009-2010. The project was implemented by Norden associations from Petrozavodsk and Umeå with support of SKBIC. The initiative was aimed at  establishing closer relations and provide exchange of knowledge between NGOs for development of future joint projects in the sphere of culture, education and information; acquaintance with traditions, culture and history of each other looking for common “roots” and promotion of traditions of the regions/countries.

2. Nordic Council of Ministers project "Swedish Business in the Republic of Karelia: experience, problems, perspectives", 2008

3. Tacis CBC SPF "Industrial Partnership of the Republic of Karelia (Russia) and Västerbotten County (Sweden)". Duration: 2005-2007. 
Location: Sweden: Vasterbotten County, Russia: Republic of Karelia. Project was aimed at promoting direct contacts between business companies and production enterprises of the two regions and resulted in a number of pilot business projects in commual sector, IT. 

SKBIC is also running few own projects, such as:

  • project "Business in social sphere" , aimed at exchange of experience with partners in Finland (Oulu) and Sweden (Umeå) in the field of private entrepreneurship in the social sphere, 2008.
  • starting 2001 - partneriates for business companies from Sweden and Karelia during Stora Nolia exhibition, which takes place in Umeå every second year.
